John Perkins has seen the signs of today's economic meltdown before. The subprime mortgage fiascos, the banking industry collapse, the rising tide of unemployment, the shuttering of small businesses across the landscape are all too familiar symptoms of a far greater disease. In his former life as an economic hit man, he was on the front lines both as an observer and a perpetrator of events, once confined only to the third world, that have now sent the United States—and in fact the entire planet—spiraling toward disaster. Here, Perkins pulls back the curtain on the real cause of the current global financial meltdown. He shows how we've been hoodwinked by the CEOs who run the corporatocracy—those few corporations that control the vast amounts of capital, land, and resources around the globe—and the politicians they manipulate. These corporate fat cats, Perkins explains, have sold us all on what he calls predatory capitalism, a misguided form of geopolitics and capitalism that encourages a widespread exploitation of the many to benefit a small number of the already very wealthy. Their arrogance, gluttony, and mismanagement have brought us to this perilous edge. Download Ebook: hoodwinked in PDF Format. Also available for mobile reader. But there is a way out. As Perkins makes clear, we can create a healthy economy that will encourage businesses to act responsibly, not only in the interests of their shareholders and corporate partners (and the lobbyists they have in their pockets), but in the interests of their employees, their customers, the environment, and society at large. We can create a society that fosters a just, sustainable, and safe world for us and our children. Each one of us makes these choices every day, in ways that are clearly spelled out in this book. 'We hold the power,' he says, 'if only we recognize it.' Hoodwinked is a powerful polemic that shows not only how we arrived at this precarious point in our history but also what we must do to stop the global tailspin. From the Hardcover edition. Materials: • 26 gauge Sheet Metal: 48” x 18″, 16” x 109”, 20” x 89”, 41’ X 36” • 16 gauge Sheet Metal: 31” x 14”, 32” x 40”, 33 ½” x 43″, 34” x 34” • 20 ft. Of 1” Square Tubing • 6” Well Casing Pipe, ¼” thick • Stovepipe and Elbow • Perlite • Sand • ½” sheet Metal Screws • Fire Bricks (high heat cement if you wish to use mortar) • Some CEB or Regular Bricks • High-Temp Silicon • High-Temp Paint Tools: • Tape Measure and Marker • Tin Snips • Pliers • Plumb Bob • Hammer • Clamps • Saw (metal and masonry blades) • Drill • Welding Equipment Steps: The base: We made this unit as a self-contained box, one that could be disassembled if necessary (mainly due the fact that is was a prototype). For that reason, we used sand as our thermal mass, and thus the box that held it in needed a bottom. Cut a piece of 26 gauge sheet metal, so that it fits the space you want to fill, plus 1 inch extra all the way around. In our case, we made the base about 46” x 18” (48” x 20” including the 1” flap), with one corner cut out and rounded off to allow more space as you come through a doorway (see photo). Mark a line all the way around the shape, 1” in from the edge. Using tin snips, cut from each corner in to the 1” line. If you have any curves, you will need to make a few cuts in to the line. Using pliers, bend the 1” flaps upwards, so that they are at right angles to the base. This is what you will screw the walls to. At the spot where your ash box will go, right under the fire, cut this flap off or bend it underneath the base. For this design, the ash box starts at 6 ¼” from the left, front corner and is 6 ½” wide. Put the base in place. Hang a plumb bob from the center of where your stove points down, and mark the metal. Endeavour Sustainable & Natural Building Education Sustainable and Natural Building. The design of the rocket mass heater. How to build a rocket mass heater. Despite their name, Rocket Mass Heaters are not complicated and in certain situations, it may cost next to nothing to build them. Use that mark as the center and draw a circle around it the same diameter as your stovepipe (usually 6”). If you don’t already have a stove pipe from a previous stove, just line up the base with the hole you have going through the wall and put a piece of stove pipe onto the base plumb with where it will go. Make a circle on the metal. You can now move the base to a more convenient place to work. Frame: You need a frame, to which you will attach the sheet metal walls of the unit. We used 1” square tubing. Because this RMH is effectively comprised of three levels (fire box, sand that surrounds most of the heat riser and stove pipe), this frame is fairly complicated to describe, so make sure you refer to the photos for clarification. As you’re welding everything together, make sure it’s all square and plumb. The two left-hand uprights are 15” tall. They are connected by a 16” piece of metal that is welded in between the two uprights a couple of inches down from the top. There is a horizontal piece of square tubing that runs most of the back of the unit (up to the curve we have on the right-hand side). It is 36 ½ ” long and is welded in between the back, left-hand upright (at the top) to the back, right-hand upright, which is 34” tall and so continues up past this horizontal. Mark 13” from the left-hand edge of this 37” long horizontal piece. Weld another upright piece, 19” tall, to the right of this mark. Cut another horizontal piece for the front. It wants to be 28” long and will be welded in between the front, left-hand upright and the front right-hand upright, which is 34” tall. Measure in between the two right-hand uprights and cut a piece of square tubing to fit exactly (it’ll be about 19”). Weld it in between the two, at the top. You also want a frame around the opening of the ashtray. Our opening is 6 ½” wide by 7 ½” tall, so we cut two uprights at 7 ½” tall each, and one horizontal piece, 8 ½” wide, which we welded on top of the uprights. Place your frame inside the base piece of metal, so that the corners match up. As a recap, you will need to cut the following lengths of square tubing: 15”, 15”, 16”, 36 ½”, 19”, 34”, 34”, 28”, 19”, 8 ½”, 7 ½” and 7 ½”, making a total of 20 ft, or one piece of tubing. 1st layer metal: This first level of sheet metal comes to the top of the fire box area. It is 16” tall (1” above the top of the left-hand square tubing frame). Cut a piece of 26 gauge sheet metal 16” by the total perimeter of the unit, plus 1”. In this case, 16” x 109”. Along one 16” end, draw a line, 1” in from the edge. Clamp the sheet metal in between two straight edges of metal, like square tubing, with the 1” sticking out. With a hammer, bend the 1” part until it is at right angles to the rest of the sheet metal. Place the 1” flap on the back of the back, left-hand upright of the frame, with the rest of the sheet metal coming forward towards the front, left upright. The bottom of the sheet metal wants to be on the outside of the base piece of metal, all the way to the ground. Screw the metal into the left-hand edge of the back upright (don’t screw in the flap yet). Screw the metal in to the side of the front, left upright, then bend it around the corner. Continued Page 2. By The NOOK Color and the NOOK Simple Touch work with files created using one of two eBook formats: EPUB or PDF. Formatted books refer to manuscripts that have been set in type with an attractive and logical design, organized into chapters, and often supplemented with icons, illustrations, and images. Here is just enough about eBook formatting: • EPUB pages are reflowed, which means the lines of text will break differently as you change the size of the text. • Reflowable PDFs act the same as EPUB files. • Non-reflowable PDFs don’t shift pages. EPUB files for NOOK eReaders The EPUB format is free and open, meaning that anyone can produce and distribute a file using this standard. Free and open does not mean that someone can release to the world a document based on copyrighted material that belongs to someone else. Shop our full collection of NOOK® tablets and eReaders. A soft touch finish that makes it easy to read for. Read forever with a vast library of eBooks. It also does not mean that someone can make free copies of all files and openly distribute them. An EPUB file is reflowable, meaning that the text can be fine-tuned to the demands of nearly any electronic reader or to the personal preferences of any human reader: typefaces can be changed, their size adjusted, and other attributes modified. Without getting too deep into the digital weeds here, the EPUB format is a variation of the coding used to produce text displayed on web pages. EPUBs work well with text that can easily be reflowed; not so well with graphic content like comic books and magazines. There are two basic types of EPUB in use: protected and unprotected. Unprotected EPUBs are commonly used for distribution of books that are no longer under copyright. (That’s why you’ll see hundreds of free versions of books by Jane Austen, Mark Twain, Jules Verne, Charles Dickens, and other literary greats.) You can use the same format to display personal documents on the screen of an eReader if you use a specialized utility to convert a word processing or spreadsheet file to the EPUB format. Protected EPUBs include Digital Rights Management, encoding intended to limit the use of the file to a single purchaser, an individual machine, or to set a time limit. The process of borrowing a book from a library shares some of the same restrictions. Most of the electronic books you purchase from Barnes & Noble or other commercial websites are going to be protected EPUBs. After all, they don’t want someone out there—not you, of course—buying a single copy of a book and then sending it by email to a few million of their closest friends. EPUBs are currently used by the NOOK Color, the NOOK Simple Touch, the Sony Reader, the Kobo eReader, the Apple iPad, and a number of other devices. Noticeably missing from that list: the Amazon Kindle, which uses a proprietary format for its protected files. PDF files for NOOK eReaders The Portable Document Format was created by Adobe Systems all the way back in 1993 as a means to allow users to exchange documents without worrying about whether the hardware and software at each end matched. It was let loose on an unsuspecting and ultimately grateful world in 1998 as an open and free standard. PDF files can contain embeded fonts and images, and pages can be enlarged. It’s a great way to send a complex document for display on standard sizes of personal computers. The reader on one device will see a “page” that is identical or highly similar to the one seen on another device. At first, PDF files were not particularly well suited to the smaller and non-standard screens of devices like smartphones and digital readers because the pages were not set up to reflow text if character size was changed. But enhancements by Adobe now permit files to be reflowable (essential for eReaders with changeable typefaces, type sizes, line spacing, and margin adjustments). Just as with EPUBs, there are both protected and unprotected versions of PDF files. An unprotected version is intended to be redistributed more or less without restriction. If you use a word processor or other productivity program on your laptop or desktop computer, you should be able to save files as unprotected PDFs. You will also find on the Internet some book files available in that open format. A protected version uses Digital Rights Management to enforce some level of control over copying, transferring, printing, and other actions. Things are looking bad, now that Lord Voldemort has come back into power and the entire wizarding community knows he's back. Headmaster Dumbledore however, knows something that most do not; how Voldemort can be destroyed. But to do so, he'll need some help from Harry. Harry has his own problem, as always. He's been made Quidditch captain this year and has to put together a winning team. He also has feelings for someone that is a bit unexpected. Free download ebook Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Book 7) for Kindle - Library for Education. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Harry Potter #7) by J. Rowling in DJVU, FB2, TXT download e-book. Ron and Hermione continue their dance as well. A new teacher joins the school, but not as the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher. And we learn a lot about Voldemort and how he turned into the creature he is now. As I said before, there isn't a lot of action in the book. It's mostly about the past and learning more about the characters we've come to love over the past few years. And love is a very important theme in this book as well, more so than in the past. The action picks up towards the end and when it does, be prepared. The 800-page novel sees the main character, Harry Potter, enter his fifth year at wizardry school, Hogwarts. Now fifteen, Harry encounters such teenage problems as moodiness and resentment of authority, while at the same time trying to untangle the mysterious return of the all-powerful, evil Lord Voldemort. By the end of the story, readers watch Harry transform from a young, confused boy into a strong leader of his fellow students, and a brave warrior against the dark powers of his world. This transformation is not without its difficulties, however, as one of Harry's dearest companions is lost in the final battle. In a slower buildup to this story's main action than in earlier books, readers follow Harry's psychological journey toward a more mature understanding of himself and his place in the wizardry community. Rowling spends much of The Order of the Phoenix tracking Harry's growing frustration as those who care most about him continue to withhold valuable information from him in an attempt to keep Harry safe from Voldemort's powers. In the end, Harry learns, through a series of mistakes and triumphs, that he is finally mature enough to learn the full truth about his famous but mysterious past as well as his significant but ominous future. The Prisoner of Azkaban has quite a bit of suspense and adventure – definitely more than the first two books. First of all, there is the terror and uncertainty of Sirius Black being at large throughout the novel – how did he escape? Where is he now? What does he plan to do once he finally gets to Harry at Hogwarts? Also, there is the fact that Harry keeps getting snippets of information about why Black is after him in particular – although he has some knowledge, everything he hears confuses him (and the reader). Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is the second novel in the series written. The plot follows 's second year at, during which a series of messages on the walls on the school's corridors warn that the 'Chamber of Secrets' has been opened and that the 'heir of ' will kill all pupils who do not come from all-magical families. These threats are followed by attacks which leave residents of the school 'petrified' (that is, frozen). Throughout the year, Harry and his friends and investigate the attacks, and Harry is confronted by, who is attempting to regain full power. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is the first film in the Harry Potter series based on the novels by J.K. It is the tale of Harry Potter, an ordinary 11-year-old boy serving as a sort of slave for his aunt and uncle who learns that he is actually a wizard and has been invited to attend the Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry. Harry is snatched away from his mundane existence by Hagrid, the grounds keeper for Hogwarts, and quickly thrown into a world completely foreign to both him and the viewer.
