Enter Hamster Free Ebook Converter, a small, free tool that can take a wide array of ebook formats as input, and convert them into a similarly wide array of output ebook formats. Users can select the output ebook format specifically, or they can browse by device make and type, selecting the ebook formats that are compatible with their specific device via a dropdown. Some PROS and CONS: PROS: • The interface: is easy to use, supports drag and drop. • Batch conversions: can convert a huge list of books in one go. • Format selection: can be done directly, or it can be done via selecting your device, and then going into a sub-selection of all the formats that your device supports. Note that this is done for format selection only; e.g. Selecting iPhone3/PDF, iPad/PDF, Kindle3/PDF, or KindleDX/PDF, with all their different screen sizes, will produce the same PDF as output, not a resizes version for each. CONS: • Does not handle some formats very well: I tried to convert CBR to PDF, and the program was stuck at 1% for a long time before I cancelled the operation. • English language interface: has lots of Russian text strewn about. But doesn’t affect the overall experience much. The verdict: In the ebook conversion and management space, there is one free software titles which (as of this writing) is king, and that software is called. But Calibre may bee too ambitious and intrusive (it tags your ebooks, organizes copies of them into it’s own folder structure, etc.) Which is why many people will find Hamster Free Ebook Converter to be a welcome addition and a must have tool. Note that this software itself is in fact based on the Calibre engine. This program offers two things; (a) the ability to handle a very wide range of formats as both input and output, and (b) a very nice and straightforward intuitive interface that looks very stylish to boot. Highly recommended. [Thanks go to reader Panzer for letting me know about this software] Version Tested: 1.0.0.9 Compatibility: Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7. Go to page to download the latest version (approx 474K). Note that once run, the installer will download installation data from the internet (approx 45 megs). The installer will ask if you also want to install Hamster Free Zip Archiver, so make sure to UNCHECK that if you do not want it. It is exactly the ‘intrusive’ eBook management of Calibre that sold me completely. Its tag system and online info search help me to effectively organize my eBook collection which I would otherwise waste much more time. Since it’s cross-platform, I’m able to manage my collection throughout my Windows and Ubuntu machines and keep my reading progress always up-to-date. All I have to do is sync the Calibre library directory through a service like Dropbox or Wuala. It seems what Hamster is doing is really mean by using the source code of Calibre without complying to the license. According to their comments, they are either too ignorant to to understand the license thing or too arrogant to respect others’ work. Kindle e-books are encoded in AZW format or a variant thereof. Not so long ago, a virtual daemon dropped a message in my mailbox, announcing the release of a brand new edition of the grimoire called Grimorium Verum. Having heard or read almost nothing about this magical book, I sat down with a cup of chicken blood in order to conduct some e-research on this concise but most sinister manual of black magic. I’m delighted to share with you the wisdom obtained in yet another post on this blog called. The Grimorium Verum (or True Grimoire) was allegedly written by Alibeck the Egyptian in Memphis in 1517. It’s agreed that this claim is untrue, as Memphis was nothing more than a ruin by that time. The Grimorium Verum more likely finds it origins in Rome, with the oldest surviving copies in French and Italian, starting from 1817 (see more on dating below). Like many grimoires, it claims to contain the sacred knowledge of biblical figure and legendary demon summoner King Solomon. As such this often overlooked grimoire takes up a place in the so-called Solomonic cycle. The first part of the Grimorium Verum (also spelled Grimoirium Verum) is indeed similar to the Lemegeton, while the second reminds more of the (which was commonly ascribed to Albertus Magnus). In English, the full title of this little treatise reads as follows: Grimoirium Verum or the Most Approved Keys of Solomon the Hebrew Rabbin where in Most Hidden Secrets both Natural and Supernatural, are immediately exhibited, but it is necessary that the Demons should be contented on their part. Translated from the Hebrew by Palingiere, a Dominican Jesuit, with a Collection of Curious Secrets. The Grimorium Verum (Latin for True Grimoire or The Grimoire of Truth), is a book DOWNLOAD. The Grimorium Verum, the infamous Grimoire of Truth, is the 18th century textbook of Magick attributed to Alibeck the Egyptian and coveted by 'The Great Beast' Aleister Crowley. The Grimorium Verum now takes its place as the third installment in the Tres Librorum Prohibitorum series of anthologies. The Grimorium Verum (Latin for True Grimoire or The Grimoire of Truth) is an 18th-century grimoire attributed to one 'Alibeck the Egyptian' of Memphis, who. Published by Alibeck the Egyptian, 1517. I dug up another by Necronomicon expert Dan Harms containing a brief overview of the editorial history of this true grimoire, focussing on early print editions and English translations. I also took the freedom to reproduce those references here, together with some editorial trivia I’ve scraped together. And some nice pictures too, to avoid full accusation of bibliographical theft. Here’s the list, and as said, modern French, Italian, and German editions (all 20th century) are not taken into account. Editions of the Grimorium Verum • The first French editions (1817) appeared in the beginning of the 19th century, an early example being a version printed by the notorious publisher Simon Blocquel in 1830. Furthermore we find Italian translations from an unknown publisher in Milan (1868), from Amato Muzzi in Firenze (1880), and from Illensub Oirelav in Milan (1880s). Dan Harms stated the Grimorium Verum was probably written after Napoleon’s invasion of Egypt (which excited the European imagination about that land and its antiquities), but in a comment Joseph H. Peterson pointed out that, a German grammarian and philologist quotes from a 152-page Latin manuscript of the Grimoirum Verum, circa 1688 (!). Thus, Harms concludes, the Grimoirum Verum pre-existed the Napoleonic campaign, but the Alibeck-Memphis attribution did not. • (1911) A.E. Waite, a scholarly mystic who wrote extensively on occult and esoteric matters, wrote as a newer and more accurate version of his previous title (1898). Waite tried to fill in the lack of accessible ancient magical literature at his time and presented the text of his book as a methodical and systematic account of magical procedures of the past. In fact, the Book of Ceremonial Magic is an attempt to synthesize the procedures of all of the famous grimoires. Waite treats the subject matter rather skeptically. As to the Grimorium Verum, large portions were translated, but on the whole these translations are very unreliable. • (1957) published another partial translation in “: Book of the Sorcerers”. It is in fact even worse than Waite’s. According to Idries Shah, “this grimoire was par excellence the magical book of Europe”. He also stated that “there is some mystery about actual manuscripts of the Grimorium Verum. The French version, for instance, seems to have been printed from a very incomplete copy: in fact, from what could have been some magician’s notes from the complete manuscript. The Italian versions, on the other hand, seem to have been compiled with reference to a very complete manuscript whose whereabouts is not now known”. • (1979) an edition published by Acorn Press (US). This book says its translation is based on the 1672 and 1861 editions, but this is most likely a lie. • (1994) by Plangiere, (hardcover) published by Trident Books. According to the publisher’s prospectus “this edition of Grimoirium Verum is unique in its completeness, verifiable authenticity and never-before published material. () An appendix,, has been added to this edition. Previously unpublished, it supplements the demonology in Grimoirium Verum in addition to making a rare Golden Dawn tract on angelology available.” Furthermore, the publisher feels “justified in saying that for all we know the Grimoirium Verum is more original than the Key of Solomon; or that it is one of original books of the Library of Hermes, or even the magical libraries of the Babylonians.” Dan Harms criticizes the Trident editions by saying that it’s basically a remarketing of the Shah material, and that it doesn’t constitute an independent translation in its own right. • (1994) [sic] (1994 Trident Books version) compiled and edited by Frater Zarathustra, published by the Technology Group (El Sobrante, Calif), pp.: iii, 32 leaves. • (1997) (paperback), published by Trident Books. • (1999) digital edition and translation by Joseph H. Peterson on (seperate as wel as parallel Italian, French, and English versions). Peterson supplied missing figures from versions found in other grimoires. In this edition the French text has been rearranged to conform with the Italian editon. • (2007), a paperback by J. Peterson, published by CreateSpace. This is a critical edition which includes a translation based on all the major sources, complete French and Italian texts, and 5 other appendices. It has received many positive on Amazon. A grammar is a description of a set of symbols and how to combine them to create well-formed sentences. A Grimoire is, appropriately enough, a description of a set of magickal symbols and how to combine them properly. Most of the texts linked below are descriptions of traditional European ritual magick, which is based on Judeo-Christianity. Even though this must not be confused with neo-Paganism, many of the neo-Pagan traditions use similar rituals and techniques, albeit with a different (usually Celtic) vocabulary. Note: These historical texts are presented for research and entertainment purposes only; we can't answer any questions about the material contained in them. Please refer to the before sending any email about these texts. Translated by S.L. MacGregor Mathers [ 1900]. This grimoire is a primary source for modern ceremonial magic. By Francis Barrett [ 1801]. One of the rarest and most reputable treatments of ceremonial magic. Discusses topics such as alchemy, astrology, and the Kabbalah. By Arthur Edward Waite [ 1913]. Comprehensive descriptions of rituals from classic grimoires, including extensive illustrations of magical seals. Grimoires covered include the Greater and Lesser Keys of Solomon, the Grimorium Verum, and the Black Pullet. Also known as the Book of Black Magic. Two very mysterious grimoires. These two grimoires (originating from the same book) are often cited as being used by Vodun/Obeah practitioners. Although they claim to be Kabbalistic in nature, there is very little if any actual Kabbalah to be found in them. Rather this appears to be a traditional ritual magick system with incantations to summon and dismiss spirits to achieve worldly ends. Published in 1849, and translated into English in 1880, the 6th and 7th Books of Moses claim to include material from 1338, 1383 and 1501, including portions reputedly translated from the 'Cuthan-Samaritan' language, which has been extinct since the 12th Century A.D., and about which very little is known. The most interesting aspects of this book are the unique illustrations of magickal seals, with letters in Hebrew and an unknown script; and the lists of names of demonic entities. Note: the images in this grimoire were originally printed in the 19th Century using very primitive printing technology. To prepare them for publication on the Internet, they were scanned from the best source available and then image-processed to bring out details. Unfortunately some of these plates have illegible portions. Note: the first five books of Moses are the traditionally the first five books of the Bible.. Translated by S. Liddell MacGregor Mathers [ 1888] The key to modern ceremonial magic. Although the author of this grimoire was traditionally the biblical King Solomon, it was probably written in the 13th Century A.D. It was translated by S. Liddell MacGregor Mathers in 1888; Mathers subsequently had a lot of influence in the Golden Dawn movement, one of the sources of modern ritual magic; it is said that he co-wrote its rituals with W.B. Mathers also translated the. MacGregor Mathers and Aleister Crowley [ 1904]. The companion Grimoire to the Greater Key of Solomon, (for which, see above). It focuses on the characteristics of the various demons, and the summoning rituals. By George Hohman [ 1820]. A grimoire in the 'Pow-wow' tradition of the Pennsylvania Dutch. In spite of the name, Pow-wow is not a Native American tradition, but a rural European healing and hexing system which was imported into America in the 18th and 19th Century by German immigrants. After nearly dying out it has experienced a small revival in recent years. Sign up for sacred-texts updates by email Enter your Email Powered by On Twitter, follow ' sacredtexts.' After the war with France has ended in 1818, Captain Adam Bolitho is given command of the newly commissioned frigate Onward and sent to North Africa on a diplomatic mission to accompany the French frigate Nautilus in a show of solidarity. He knows he is lucky—the voyage should be easy; but Adam longs for a chance to marry the beautiful Lowenna and settle down on the Bolitho estate in Cornwall. Instead he must deal with the envy and ambition of his officers, hidden agendas among his men, and the former enemy’s proximity. Then the Nautilus becomes a sacrificial offering on the altar of Empire, and the hunt is on for a treacherous foe. Author:Alexander Kent Language: eng. Format: mobi. Jago pushed the thought aside and said roughly, 'When all this is over, you can get some new middy's. Suddenly every man must discover for himself whether the brotherhood of the sea can transcend old hatreds and an ocean of blood. It is February 1818, and Adam Bolitho longs for marriage and a safe personal harbour. But with so much of Britain's fleet redundant, he knows he is fortunate to be offered H.M.S. Onward, a new 38-gun frigate whose first mission is not war but diplomacy, as consort to the French frigate Nautilus. Under the burning sun of North Africa, Bolitho is keenly aware of the envy and ambition among his officers, the troubled, restless spirits of his midshipmen, and the old enemy's proximity. It is only when Nautilus becomes a sacrificial offering on the altar of empire that every man discovers the brotherhood of the sea is more powerful than the bitter memories of an ocean of blood and decades of war. Kobo is an ebook store with applications offered for Windows, Mac and Linux. This application can sync with apps for iOS, Android, Blackberry and Palm Pre mobile phones and devices, so you can enjoy your reading on the go. On every platform the reading experience is clean and simple. Kobo is a line of electronic reading devices connected to a store, similar to the Amazon Kindle. Just like the store built into the Kindle, Kobo features a lot of books you can pay for. This makes sense; publishers need to make money somehow. Do a quick search, however, and you can find a lot of free books to download from Kobo and read on whatever device you like. Some of these are in the public domain because of their age; others are offered free. Syncing books and bookmarks across devices is automatic, giving Kobo a slight edge over other platforms. For example, you could, but you cannot use this to sync your bookmarks to your mobile devices. Kobo can sync everything about your reading between all of your devices, and also offers access to newspaper and magazine subscriptions. What It Is Fire up Kobo Desktop. Create a user account and you’ll see your new library, which by default will feature just a few free literary classics: Simply click a book to start reading. The interface for doing so is really simple, which I think you’ll enjoy a great deal. Here you’ll find the latest books for sale, if you’re inclined to pay for them. You can also find a variety of free books. Free Books Scroll down in the store and you’ll eventually see a banner for free ebooks. Click this and you’ll be presented with a variety of free titles. These will range from new books that are free to promote others to literary classics. But don’t go thinking that the approximately 200 books you can browse here are the sum total of the free books offered. Search for any book you know to be in the public domain and you’ll find a free copy of it. Not bad at all. Remember: any book with a blue “Download” button where the price should be is free. Download Want to get started? Windows and Mac users can. If you’re a Linux user you can, or simply like I did. Want Kobo on your smartphone?. Didn’t Borders Go Bankrupt? You may be wondering: isn’t the Kobo Reader a dying platform since Borders announced its bankruptcy? As it turns out, no. As Kobo explained recently, Borders is only a minority shareholder of Kobo and represents a very small fraction of its global sales. The Borders Desktop that comes with Kobo Readers in the United States? It’s just a re-packaged Kobo desktop, though inferior in some ways. The Borders Desktop, for example, doesn’t support newspaper subscriptions; Kobo Desktop does. You can use the Kobo Desktop to get access to these features on your Borders-supplied Kobo, and this will give you access to newspaper subscriptions and any other goodies Kobo may soon provide. That’s what I did, and I’m enjoying the access to newspaper subscriptions (although my switching probably isn’t helping with Border’s bankruptcy situation). I’m hoping that future features added will include automated subscriptions. How do you like the Kobo Desktop? Fill us in using the comments. Also feel free to recommend other ebook services, because we love learning.
