Between mouthfuls of food and over the delicate scraping of cutlery, the conversation remains a gentle hum of politeness - the banality of work, the triviality of holidays. But the empty words hide a terrible conflict and, with every forced smile and every new course, the knives are being sharpened. ![]() Each couple has a fifteen-year-old son. Together, the boys have committed a horrifying act, caught on camera, and their grainy images have been beamed into living rooms across the nation; despite a police manhunt, the boys remain unidentified - by everyone except their parents. The million-copy bestseller that has got everyone talking. Description: Read Now Dear Mr M by Herman Koch and you can download with pub, pdf, txt, doc, and more file format with free account. 'an absolute page-turner' mail on sunday dear mr. M, i'd like to start by telling you that i'm doing better now. I do so because you probably have no idea that i was ever doing worse. Much worse, in fact, but i'll get to that later on. M is being watched. As a famous writer, he is no stranger to the limelight, although interest in his work has been dwindling of late. His print runs are smaller than they used to be, as are the crowds at his bookshop signings... Our narrator clearly takes a keen interest in m.' S work, and indeed in every aspect of his life. But what exactly are his intentions? And to what does mr. M owe the honour of his undivided attention? Our narrator seems to be no stranger to murder, while his own story appears to bear more than a passing resemblance to the plot of mr. M's most famous novel: a teacher has an affair with a student, only to be brutally murdered by the girl and her teenage boyfriend. The body is never found. That's the problem with fiction: in real life, bodies have an awkward habit of turning up. M has used some artistic licence, and our narrator is not pleased, not pleased at all. And just before he fades into obscurity, he's prepared to give mr. M one last review. And it's unlikely to be a rave. M is an unsettling and irresistibly readable literary thriller, set in the world of writing and bookselling, by herman koch, the author of the international bestseller, the dinner. Sommerhaus Mit Swimmingpool (2012) About book: Dr. Marc Schlosser really doesn't like his patients very much. He has little patience for their tribulations, and is easily repulsed by their bodily functions. Marc, his wife and two teenaged daughters are invited to vacation at one of his patient's summer homes. The patient is the actor Ralph Meier, successful, boisterous and full of himself. Marc is attracted to Ralph's wife, Judith, so he maneuvers his family close to the Meiers. The holiday starts pleasant enough, lounging, beach time and ample food and drink. Marc's two daughters form fast friendships with Ralph's two teenage sons. But when something tragic happens to one of Marc's daughter, he finds himself loathing Ralph Meier.Marc is out to get revenge. There is one scene with an eyeball that was so repulsive. I had to take multiple pauses to get through that passage.Liked this one much better than 'The Dinner'. Complex characters, unpredictable. Highly recommend. I can't say I hated the book, as the basic story line premise is interesting, and it held my interest enough to finish the book. With that said, I absolutely hated the main character, Marc, and his whole voice throughout the book. If you want to have sex with a loved one any time soon, don't read this book. Marc, a family physician, has such an aversion to the human body, and the writer writes about this aversion in such constant detail in every chapter of the book that you can't help but pick up that disgust yourself. His voice is also very misogynistic. There is an underlying lack of respect for women's intelligence (yes, they're beautiful and sexy, but they constantly complain, can't seem to make coherent arguments in intelligent discourse, etc.) as well that is disturbing. Note that the writer is European, so if you're the typical rather prudish American, all of the constant references to a naked character (Ralph) and his private parts hanging here, there and everywhere, often is reference to Marc's little girls, it's rather disturbing. I'd skip this one if you have other books on your to-read list.
